Development Plc (KPD Plc)
KPD was established in 2008, in Karagwe, Kagera Region, North East Tanzania) by 5 founders and its shareholding has since grown to embrace 12,000 coffee and 250,000 beans smallholder farmers who have expanded form 6 to 10 Agricultural Marketing Cooperatives societies(AMCOS) in Karagwe, Kyerwa, Ngara, Misenyi, and Muleba districts and we are ready to invite and embrace other Agricultural Marketing Cooperatives Societies(AMCOS) to work hand in hand with. KPD plc engages in processing, transportation and buying of coffee and beans from AMCOS, Peasants and smallholders farmers to ensures reliable access of raw materials, storage and part of the processing and then sells the produce to the local and international markets. KPD is set up as a public company limited by shares.
KPD’s mission is to facilitate the stakeholder farmers (shareholders of KPD) to get better prices for their produce. KPD Plc main strategy is to make markets work for smallholder farmers through Structured Trading Systems and registration of KPD farmers with specialty markets. These markets (premium quality, organic or fair trade) allow farmers to concentrate on quality, fetch a higher value added and obtain more stable prices.
With respects to its coffee production, KPD is currently a member of Fairtrade Flo ID 21784 since 04/04/2011 and 4C Association Membership No. 30062. KPD has also been registered with IMO as Organic Operator with Certificate No. 130049 issued on 12/2/2013.
KPD Plc is a public limited liability company, its shareholders have a supreme power in decision making normally through the general meeting. The internal ultimate authority is vested in the board of directors. The Managing Director is held exclusively responsible for daily management. The main department include Production/Environment, Marketing and Finance.

KPD buys coffee and beans from Peasants and smallholders farmers ensures storage and part of the processing and then sells the produce to the local and international markets. KPD is set up as a public company limited by shares.
